Freeze Night Volunteers
One of SHPC's missions is to host homeless families at the Central Presbyterian Church downtown on nights when the temperature is forecast to be in the freezing range.
When called, our church is assigned to run the shelter on Tuesday and Thursday nights. At least three people are needed in the evening from 5:00 to 7:30 to open the fellowship hall, greet guests, and prepare and serve a dinner to no more than 20 people. Two people are needed for the overnight shift which starts at 7:30 p.m. and involves locking the fellowship hall, being available if needed, sleeping in the overnight hosts' room, preparing and serving breakfast, and securing the fellowship hall when all guests have departed at 7:30 a.m.
Our current Freeze Night coordinator, Linda Wheeler, is always looking for new volunteers. Contact her via email at sweetangel0012003 AT yahoo.com .
