The Ark: early childhood sunday school

The Ark, which is the name of our nursery and preschool program for newborns to four and five-year-olds not yet in school, is offered during both the 9:30 and 11:00 worship services. The Ark is based on the First Look curriculum, which lays the foundation for the truths to be learned on UpStreet, the elementary program at SHPC. The three basic truths that we teach in the Ark are:

God made me.         God loves me.         Jesus wants to be my friend forever.

Each month, we will focus on one of the 3 basic truths by engaging our preschooler’s five senses in fun learning activities, large group Bible story and worship time, and prayer. Each lesson is full of sensory experiences, will and wiggly activities (perfect for preschoolers!), crafts, music and real life situations to which they, as preschoolers, relate.

Another exciting part of our new program is scripture memory. Even preschoolers can learn God’s Word and hold it near to their hearts! Children will hear, see and say scripture as they learn one Bible verse a month. Reinforcing this at home will give both parents and children the opportunity to connect to God’s Word together.

Our hope is that through the Ark experience, your preschooler, by age 5, will believe in the three basic truths, will be confident that they can talk to God at any time and in any place, and will know that what they learn on Sundays connects to their home and real-life situations.
